I don’t know what it was but I watched District 9 recently and after seeing the transport ship they were trying to raise to get to the spaceship I became inspired to get back to some Tau.
I’m not ready to get back to the multi levels of Green on them but I did decide to finish converting my Kroot Hounds.
Now let it be known I really hate the current metal models for the Kroot Hounds and with the limited sculpts for them I wanted to do something different.
First I thought of going to the LotR range and using the Wargs and from there thought it might be easy using Chaos Hounds but there would have been more work than I wanted to do. So I looked into other areas and decided to go with ghouls with a head swap.
So they sat there for a while and I finally got the urge to get them together and painted.
Let me know what you think!

Those are fantastic! Much better than my attempt at converting up kroot hounds.
To be Honest Rushputin it was your hounds that had inspired me to do something different than getting the bad metal ones so you should be credited for giving me the inspiration to do these.
Also talking with the manager of my local GW store for about an hour helped me get the idea for these ones.
Aw, shucks!
I maintain that this approach works better: it involves fewer kits and is therefore simpler and less expensive. I think the spines/hair on the ghouls works better with the kroot head spines than the skink scales. It’s a great conversion.
I did it even cheaper… I picked up the Ghouls box and then got onto ebay and picked up the heads from a bits seller so I think the heads were under $6 shipped to Australia.
I just need to finish my Kroot now and get a second box so I can have 2 squads of 10 with 5 hounds each.
These are fantastic, Lord Shaper! Not only do they look much better than the standard kroot hounds, but it’s awesome that you have created a unique type of model as well. Excellent work on these guys, they’re great!
I’ve never seen anything like this before. I don’t see them as prawns, but oddly enough, I get a feeling of them. Perhaps it’s because of their posture, but more likely because you mentioned them as inspiration. I wonder if I would’ve drawn a parallel if you hadn’t said that…?
I think what mainly had me thinking of the Prawns was OSH who did his District 9 display board at some point.
Hello! Would you consider selling them? If so please contact me at joelbouchard@videotron.ca
Hi Fantaman. Unfortunately those where sold a few years back now so I don’t have them anymore
