Farewell to Games Workshop

Farewell to Games Workshop

As everyone should know Games Workshop as of Monday have changed their T&C with 2 of the major stores stating that they are unable to sell outside of the EU which has a lot of Australians pissed off.

Over here on this side of the world we are getting a bad deal to say the least for any GW products.

For Example:

I can go onto GW and pick up a Storm Raven for AUS$110

I can go to Wayland Games and purchase it for AUS$50.10

Even if it was AUS$10 to AUS$15 for shipping (which is a big exaggeration) how could I not go for the cheaper price…?

Now I may have a good job as does my wife but I can’t justify going out and speaking AUS$110 on one Flier when I might be after 2 plus a couple of other tanks and it just adds up to over AUS$500 in one hit which I WILL NOT DO.

I have to put my family first and I won’t go without a doctors visit if it is needed or miss out on medication I should be taking to have a tank to put on the table.

So I will be finishing off my Deathwing with one box of Terminators before the end of the month (so I can get it for $40 and not $80) and then for the foreseeable future I will not be purchasing anything from GW.

I’m also most probably going to be selling off my Tau as I can’t see me going through to rebuild them when they come out with a new codex. I will keep getting the Horus Heresy books from my Source Over Seas where I can get them for under AUS$8 compared to AUS$20 in any GW store…

That is until they release a new box for Bloodbowl but I do have all the old teams.

So to sum up I want to Thank GW for pricing me out of the game and when it’s cheaper to get forgeworld to GW you should really look at what is happening with the economy and adjust your prices to reflect that.

That Just means I’m going to have more time for other games like Malifaux, Infinity, Judge Dredd (which has free rules online) and Pulp City…

There’s a world of Wargaming out there outside of the elephant in the room!

Like I said on Twitter, they have started to dig a very big hole!!

But cant see how they can stop people selling on ebay and who has ebay shops? Why the 2 big EU!
They cant stop it, it will just go underground ebay/forums

  2. Lord Shaper says:

They already stopped them selling on ebay as I’ve looked and you can not find any GW product on either Wayland or Maelstrom’s ebay sites.

It was something about GW classing it as a secondary market or some other bullshit if I remember correctly

We were discussing this the other concerning Blood Bowl. It is totally possible for a new player to get into Blood Bowl…and never give a dime to GW. The rules are free, third party companies make a TON of teams now, and you can even get the dice and the pitches from third parties.

Bloodbowl does have a lot of other sources for figures… Neil who sculpt Shadowforge has been a friend of mine since he owned his own store and started sculpting so I’ve had a lot of his figures over the years.

Also I was firstin introduced to Terranscapes by googling pitches… If only he could still make them but the IP hammer hit him.

Where have you seen the Dice and Pitches from Mik?

I should join NAF at some point myself hehehe

  5. Tristan says:

NAF will get you block dice.
A quick bit of googling will find you some pitches.

Nice write up. I’m in total support, and we don’t have it so bad in the UK.

Like you, this price hike is the final nail in the coffin that is my 40k gaming – though it has been coming for a while.

I am currently selling my stuff on Ebay to finance games like Malifaux and Warmachine, as you say there is life beyond GW.

  7. winter says:

    Indeed!

Once my Grey Knights are done, I won’t be buying a thing from them.

Just a pity that most people in Canberra only seem to play GW games :-/

  8. Lord Shaper says:

@Tristan I have quite a few different sets of Block Dice and I have yet to look around for Blood Bowl pitches… I still have my old 3rd edition one as well as the Dungeon Bowl one somewhere.

Thanks for the Idea with NAF. I’ve been meaning to join that for years.

@Malcontent I knwo what you mean… I put out the word about my Tau and have had a friend ask what I’ve got so I don’t think they will be around for much more.

At least you had some real prices for things and since there is going to be the new price increases I wonder how long it is going to take them to see the castle they have build has lost it’s foundation.

Good luck with the ebay sales!

@winter You know you could always move to Sydney since there are groups popping up all over the place now! hehehe

Hey guys just thought you would like to know something if you still want to get gw models from waylend.

If you have family, friends or know some one that does get them to open a PO box or see if you can do it yourself (never tried) once you have one set up all you have to do is get a mail redirection to AU (you usually pay though for the year or what ever but it aint to much) and thats how you get wayland or malstrom models to AU YAY!!!

  10. BOB says:

LOL in the uk that is!!!!!

  11. Lord Shaper says:

I know I could do something like that But I have enough to play both my Blood Angels and Deathwing armies and I don’t see myself needing to get anything from GW any time soon at all…

As for getting into new games… I was toying with the idea of painting a Warhammer army up but now for me it’s cheaper to go with a Hordes of the Things army instead…

And with that the rules are free and there are so many army lists around it’s not funny!
