As you could gather from the title, I’ve made my decision and it’s going to be Blood Angels.
After painting Green for the last couple of months I decided to go with the Blood Angels rather than wait for the possibility of a new Dark Eldar codex.
That being said I’m not going to run like a bull at a gate to get a 1500-1750 point army in a week or so since I want this to go between painting up my Tau so it’s a nice break from the one thing over and over again.
So I’m not going to go on about the pros and cons of an army as, to be honest, I haven’t had a chance to read it through fully. But looking through it you know that it’s going to mainly be an assault army, which is what I wanted as a change to my Tau.
On that note one of the things that I really can’t do is paint red… I don’t know if it’s that I don’t like the colour or that I don’t give it enough time to dry so I keep showing brush strokes in it. So when I picked up my my first 5 man assault squad I decided to do a successor chapter.
This is where my first gripe is with the Blood Angels… How many Successor’s have to be just wearing Red Armour? I can understand some on there but the majority of the successors you couldn’t tell the difference unless you knew what the different chapter symbols were.
So I thought, “I’ll make my own”… “I know… Bone and Black would be good… Like a assaulty type of deathwing where they had the look of skeletal marines coming at you”. Well I tried it and to be honest it was no good…
So then it was back to the book and after reading about the different ones I’ve decided on Knights of the Blood. I like the fact that there is that mystery about them. Also it gives a reason my Marine would be fighting Marine as well as anything else.
So far I have one figure finished so I’ll be getting photos of that one as soon as I finish a couple of others so we get the group feel.
So we have Renegade Marines.
As it says on the Lexicanum:
Once a successor chapter to the Blood Angels, The Knights of Blood are a renegade Space Marine warband. After massacres on Cadon, Obsus Prima and Helka II they were declared Renegade by the High Lords of Terra in M41. Although their frenzied warriors are dangerous to both friend and foe alike, they still (supposedly) purge the galaxy of the Imperium’s enemies.
So we have Marines that possibly could have turned to Chaos as they also have been mentioned in the 4th Edition Chaos Codex (which I want to get my hands on now).
So where does this leave the modeling for the chapter?
I’m thinking that I could take some liberties with them and have the odd chaos figure in there to show the slow transition. I’m thinking the odd Possessed figure to be a squad leader… I have my eye on a Chaos Terminator for a squad leader as well.
What do you think guys?
Let me know in the comments…
I didn’t Know that they was put in 4th edition of the Chaos Codex !!!!
I shall have to dig mine out 😀
I’ve read that they were mentioned in there and since I don’t have a copy of it myself I’d like to see what it says about them.
I noticed that there is some more information on the Knights of the Blood that was put on the Astronomicon today as well so maybe we’ll get some more soon.
